Neighborhood Resources

As a small business owner, I know how valuable word of mouth advertising is to a business’ success. I’m including businesses in the JP area which I use and refer enthusiastically and which I think embody the service and spirit I appreciate and strive to provide at Paws to Consider.

Morrison’s Auto-Rite 475 Centre Street 617.522.4444 www.morrisonsautorite.com

This business is a gem. These people are friendly, professional, completely trustworthy and it’s a family business to too! If you have a mechanic, get rid of them. I’m telling you, you’ll love Morrison’s. And they always give my dog a cookie.

Hounds & Co. 765 Centre Street 617.983.0003

This shop replaced Centre Pet and is a welcome neighborhood addition for all of us pet owners. They have a great selection of food, toys, beds – you name it. It’s owned by a nice couple who are very receptive to the community’s suggestions and feedback.

Chah Fahn 763 Centre Street 617.983.3575 www.chahfahn.com

A great change of pace. They have an extensive selection of loose teas and their food is delicious. The setting is attractive and serene and the owner and staff are very nice. Treat yourself to an oasis in JP.

Emack & Bolio’s 736 Centre Street 617.524.5107 www.emackandbolios.com

This is a great place to hang out and have great homemade ice cream. They also offer pastry, soups, smoothies, coffee & tea. The shop has free WIFI, local artists’ works on the walls (check out Delaine Hackney’s mosaic mural on the wall) and a really inviting layout of small & communal tables, couches & leather chairs. Animal Lovers: get your dog the Doggie Sundae, my dog LOVES it.

Pizza Oggi 8 Perkins Street 617.971.9797 Take-Out only.

This is not your average pizza. Their crust is addictive. They use sesame seeds and cornmeal. You have to taste it to appreciate the difference. Their selection is small, but the ones they offer are so good, I don’t want any others. The counter staff isn’t always the friendliest, but this I forgive for that crust!

Roxbury Highland Bank 515 Centre Street 617.524.6500 www.bankofjp.com

This bank is the Cheers of banks. The tellers know every customer by name. They are a single-location bank. That’s right – one branch. Very old school. If you hate the Wal-Mart-bank culture, check them out. It feels like a family business. They have really cheap fees on their accounts and are members of the SUM Network of ATM’s. Every account holder is a share holder and has a vote in shareholder meetings. They are also bilingual English/Spanish.

Fat Ram’s Pumpkin Tattoo 380 Centre Street 617.522.6444 www.fatramtattoo.com

An un-intimidating tattoo shop. The owners are really nice people and I have taken care of their dogs Drexel and Lulu for a few years now – and their cats and birds too.

Petal & Leaf 467 Centre Street 617.524.2227

A great independent florist with a friendly owner and staff. and nice flowers to boot!

Yumont True Value Hardware 702 Centre Street 617.524.4572 www.truevalue.com

If you need a key copied, this is the place in JP to do it. They are always right on. They have a good paint department for a small store. Check out the community bulletin board near the front door.

Pluto 603 Centre Street 617.522.0054

A funky card and gift store. These guys have great taste; I love the stuff in their store. Check out their restaurant in Hyde Square named Zon’s

Blue Frog Bakery 3 Green Street 617.983.3764 www.bluefrogbakery.com

The best milk chocolate chip cookie I have tasted, besides my grandmother’s. The owner opened the shop in JP after working as the pastry chef in New York.

Dolittle's Pet Grooming 7 Green Street 617.524.2950 www.dolittles.net

This is a great little shop owned by a JP native, Amanda Phillips-Kennedy. Amanda worked for Paws to Consider for a while & her love of animals led her to buy Dolittle's from the previous owner, Delaine Hackney. Check them out!

New England Dog 857.719.9631

Owner Raud Kennedy works with local dog s and their owners 1:1 to provide individualized attention. He has worked with several of my customers, who have all been very happy with the results.

Brookline Animal Hosptial 678 Brookline Avenue, Brookline 617.277.2030

Chief of Staff Scott Groper and his staff are the PTC vet of choice. I decided to switch to them after noticing that many of my customers used them. I've been very happy with the attention my concerns get and the quality and responsiveness of care.
